Ooredoo Group has signed frame supply agreements with Alcatel-Lucent and with Ericsson. The new agreements follow Ooredoo's strategy to enhance network performance across its global footprint, to deliver a superior online experience for customers and to provide the foundations for a new wave of ""smart"" services.

The agreement with Alcatel-Lucent is for five years and covers technology for ultra-broadband IP and transport networks. It will apply to Ooredoo businesses in Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific and Southeast Asia.

Alcatel-Lucent will supply packet microwave, high bandwidth optical networking and IP routing platforms enabling Ooredoo to enhance its customers' experiences for rich communications, watching video entertainment from fixed/mobile devices and accessing cloud-based business applications. Alcatel-Lucent is also providing its professional services, including network management services.

The agreement with Ericsson covers 2G, 3G and 4G radio, core and transmissions equipment, small cells, mobile softswitching and evolved packet core, microwave transmission equipment and related implementation and integration services.

Ericsson & Ooredoo collaborate on 5G
Ooredoo has also signed a MoU with Ericsson for 5G development under which the two companies will develop use cases, requirements and deployment scenarios for 5G and evaluate Key 5G components in a controlled environment.
