China Telecom has announced details of a collaboration with Huawei over the deployment of the nation’s first ever ROADM deployment. It was officially disclosed that Huawei had secured the exclusive contract for the project in a statement issued to the press. Huawei will oversee China Telecom’s Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) Network project – which is the country’s first intelligent ROADM WDM backbone network to be constructed in China.

In a joint-statement it was further disclosed that the network will be deployed in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River – which has already established itself as the fastest developing region. The network will provide the region’s requirements for robust and fast broadband to support data storage and analysis for applications including big data, cloud computing, and the IoT.

Huawei expressed its delight at the new partnership and outlined that this new project will cover 21 ROADM sites in locations such as Hubei, Jiangxi, Anhui, Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai. In addition to this, it can also provide over three hundred 100G electrical lines and 100% network recovery capability.

It has not yet been officially confirmed when construction on the new project will commence, but it’s speculated that it will begin operations in the next few months.
