ZTE Corporation a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, announced that the company has signed an agreement with Pakistan Television Corporation on digital television services at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing.

Under the agreement, PTV will leverage ZTE’s world-class technology solutions to deliver rich and compelling digital TV broadcasts to viewers based on the DTMB standard.

In 2015, Pakistan inaugurated the adoption of the DTMB standard for digital television broadcasts in an event officiated by President Xi Jinping of China and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of Pakistan. With a population of almost 200 million, Pakistan selected DTMB, a technology developed by China, after evaluating alternatives including the European DVB-T standard and the Japanese ISDB-T standard.

In April 2017, ZTE won a tender from China’s Ministry of Commerce on a project for digital television services in Pakistan.

The agreement between ZTE and PTV will cover collaboration across R&D of digital terrestrial television technologies, staff training and content.

The adoption of DTMB standard in Pakistan will generate employment and economic opportunities locally, as well as partnerships with Chinese multinational companies in multiple areas including television sets and set top boxes.
