Infinera announced that Globe Telecom, Inc. (Globe), a major provider of telecom services in the Philippines, deployed Infinera’s Auto-Lambda solution, featuring autotuneable optics, to upgrade its existing 4G access and aggregation networks and in anticipation of providing future 5G services. By upgrading its access network with Infinera’s autotuneable optics technology, Globe can deliver more capacity on its existing network and scale to address bandwidth growth within its current network architecture while reducing both capital and ongoing operational expenses. 

Nokia announced that Vocus, Australia’s leading fibre and network solutions provider, has deployed Nokia’s solution to set up the 200G optical links covering more than 4,100 km between Brisbane and Darwin. Nokia’s 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS) is used to upgrade Vocus’ optical network between Adelaide, Brisbane and Darwin to deliver 200G with the capability to easily provide 300G and 400G in the near future. With this initiative, the Vocus capacity upgrade covers more than 7,100 km of fibre. 

MTN South Africa network will be the first mobile operator in Africa to provide 5G access to customers from the Philippines through its international roaming agreement with the Philippines’ leading mobile services provider, Smart Communications.

An ST Engineering and Siemens Mobility consortium announced that it has won a $180 million contract to renew and modernise the communications system for Singapore’s North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL) and the Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT). SES announced Microsoft as the first cloud provider customer for its next-generation medium earth orbit (MEO) system - O3b mPOWER. Microsoft plans to leverage the MEO high-performance connectivity services to showcase its Azure Orbital solutions that integrate satellite connectivity with Azure services. Microsoft will use SES’s current MEO to provide connectivity now before migrating to O3b mPOWER next year.
