ZTE Corporation, a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the mobile internet, has announced that its CEO Xu Ziyang has been awarded the Outstanding Contribution to the Asia Mobile Industry Award at the GSMA’s Asia Mobile Awards (The AMOs) 2022, held in Hong Kong. The award recognizes Mr. Xu Ziyang’s outstanding leadership in guiding ZTE to continuously promote industrial innovation, increase cross-industry cooperation and boost the development of the global mobile industry.

The Asia-Pacific Telecommunity (APT) is currently presenting the 4th Meeting of the APT Preparatory Group for PP-22 (APT PP22-4) from 1 to 5 August 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand in a hybrid format. The meeting is hosted by the Office of the National Broadcasting Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) and the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), Thailand.

Huawei has joined Sisvel Wi-Fi 6 patent pool as one of its founding members. This new patent pool provides an avenue for Wi-Fi 6 standard essential patents of Huawei and other innovators to be shared. Huawei has also concurrently become a licensee of the pool.

Australia and Singapore will unite in the fight against unsolicited telemarketing, spam and scams, following an agreement between the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and the Info-communications Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA).

Spending on IoT products and services in Australia and New Zealand (A/NZ) is forecasted to exceed $16 billion in 2022, an increase of 13% from 2021, according to IDC's latest Worldwide Semiannual Internet of Things Spending Guide. A/NZ IoT market faces challenges due to rising inflation, chip shortages, trade restrictions, natural calamities and supply chain disruptions. However, despite these challenges, increasing 5G deployment, surging currency rates and maturing adoption of technologies such as AI, cloud and big data together add potential to the IoT deployment in the region. IDC forecasts A/NZ spending on IoT to reach $24 billion in 2026, with a CAGR of 10% for 2021 to 2026.
