Facebook and Ericsson, in conjunction with Thailand's Total Access Communication PLC (dtac), have joined forces to measure and improve the user app experience on the dtac network. Using a methodology developed by Ericsson and Facebook, typical Facebook interactions were triggered from Facebook test accounts and measured on different mobile test devices in central Bangkok. After adjustments to the dtac network, results showed big improvements to the Facebook app experience such as 60 percent improvement in Facebook uploads and downloads time.

Australian Stock Exchange-listed telco, Vocus Group, has contracted Alcatel Submarine Networks to construct its 4600km Australia Singapore Cable (ASC) that will connect Perth in Western Australia with Singapore via Jakarta.

Nokia and Smart, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PLDT, have achieved 5G speeds of 2.5 Gigabits per second (Gbps) using 100 MHz with latency of just 1 millisecond for the first time in the Philippines over a 'live' network. With its capability to deliver extremely high speeds coupled with low latency, 5G opens up exciting possibilities for Internet of Things (IoT) applications for Filipinos, particularly in healthcare and smart cities.

Singapore's three mobile network operators '” M1, Singtel and StarHub '” have adopted the GSMA's Mobile Connect authentication standard enabling their customers to accessa variety of online services with their mobile number. The Mobile Connect service is already used in 22 other countries

Swedish telecommunications giant Ericsson revealed their ambitious plans for 5G deployment in China. Ericsson endured a number of high-profile setbacks in recent months, but they've disclosed some of its strategies in relation to the 5G deployment in China '“ which is a market they feel is the future of global communications.

Smart Axiata Co., Ltd. (Smart), the leading mobile telecommunications operator in Cambodia, has partnered with 365squared, an international managed services provider specialized in revenue assurance and managed solutions, to remove the effects of spam for Smart's subscribers and monetize its application-to-person (A2P) SMS traffic through the 365secure service. This service was successfully deployed for Smart in Cambodia in October 2016 to help deliver a better service for more than 8 million Smart subscribers and provide new revenue opportunities.

Samsung has announced its support of YouTube's global HDR playback on television for the first time, through an expanded version of the YouTube application. The YouTube Application is currently available on all 2016 Samsung Quantum dot TVs and UHD TVs.

Ericsson has signed a five-year contract with Ooredoo Group to implement its Revenue Manager charging and billing system across the Group's footprint in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, starting with Indosat Ooredoo, its largest operation, in November, followed by deployment across its other operations in 2016 and 2017.
