Malaysia's communications minister has announced that the government has reached an agreement with the country's five mobile network operators (MNOs) regarding their stakes in the wholesale 5G company, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB).

In a statement, Fahmi Fadzil revealed that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission's “5G Task Force” has been working on this deal with CelcomDigi, Maxis, Telekom Malaysia, U Mobile and YTL Communications.

The MNOs are currently in the process of finalizing their shares in DNB. Maxis, the last operator to join the government's 5G network plan, is expected to launch its 5G services after the third quarter of this year.

Fadzil also mentioned that the government aims to provide 5G coverage to 80% of the population by the end of 2021.
