M1, Singtel and StarHub will discontinue all 3G services in Singapore starting July 31, 2024. This includes voice calls, messaging and data services, as these are no longer widely used. By retiring the 3G networks, mobile operators will be able to repurpose some of the spectrum to enhance 5G services. 5G networks offer faster speeds, higher data throughput and improved security and reliability.

In recent years, mobile operators have been encouraging 3G customers to switch to newer 4G and 5G networks through outreach programs. These newer networks are already the preferred choice in Singapore and are essential for both consumers and businesses. Only a small percentage of customers still rely on 3G services, mainly those using older mobile devices or SIM cards that are incompatible with 4G and 5G networks.

In the coming months, proactive measures will be taken to inform and assist 3G users in transitioning to newer networks. Here are the steps for customers to migrate: If you have a 3G-only or early-release 4G handset, you have the option to switch to newer networks by selecting from a variety of 4G and 5G handsets available at different price points. If you are still using a 3G-only SIM card, you can visit your operator's website to find instructions on upgrading your SIM card.
