SK Telecom and Intel have successfully developed a technology designed to reduce communication delays, which is vital for the development of 6G core architecture.

This innovation is expected to drive the advancement of mobile communication systems and establish the foundation for the future of networks.

Reducing Core Network Latency

The core network is essential for maintaining the security and quality of service by acting as the gateway for all voice and data traffic from users' mobile devices to the internet. The 6G core architecture requires a high level of adaptability, security, and the incorporation of smart and automated technologies to provide reliable AI services.

As technology progresses, the networks' systems and services expand accordingly. Consequently, the transmission and reception of messages undergo frequent reconfigurations, leading to heightened communication delays.

SKT and Intel’s partnership aims to address the constraints of conventional communication standard technologies by developing the Inline Service Mesh. Using Intel Xeon processors with built in AI, this technology boosts the speed of communication within the core network by lowering the latency between unit operations without the need for a proxy.

This development is expected to significantly reduce communication delays by 70% and boost service efficiency by 33% in the core network using the 6G core architecture.

“We have made another technical achievement through continuous technology development cooperation with Intel to secure leadership in 6G,” said Yu Takki, Vice President and Head of Infra Tech at SKT.

SK Telecom is preparing to incorporate these findings into commercial devices by next year, demonstrating its dedication to enhancing mobile communication technologies. A technical white paper has been published, providing extensive information about the technology, the development process, and the related advantages.
