Nokia has announced that OPTAGE Inc. will conduct Japan's first field trial of a symmetrical 25G Passive Optical Network (PON) service utilizing Nokia's fiber solution.

25G PON Pioneers Ultra-Fast, Reliable Broadband

Nokia’s 25G PON will provide OPTAGE clients with ultra-fast, reliable broadband services, which are increasingly critical for the development of innovative applications like the Metaverse, cloud gaming, and business services.

A symmetrical 25G PON service revolutionizes broadband connectivity by providing equal upstream and downstream bandwidth capabilities, ensuring efficient data transmission in both directions. Unlike traditional asymmetric services, which prioritize downstream data, symmetrical 25G PON allocates the same high bandwidth for uploading and downloading data, making it ideal for bandwidth-intensive applications like video conferencing, online gaming, and cloud-based services. Leveraging advanced optical technology and a 25 Gbps data transmission rate, this service delivers ultra-fast internet speeds, enabling users to seamlessly stream high-resolution videos, download large files, and engage in real-time collaboration without experiencing delays or buffering.

Moreover, symmetrical 25G PON networks offer unparalleled reliability, scalability, and futureproofing. By minimizing signal degradation and interference through passive optical components and fiber-optic cables, these networks ensure stable and consistent broadband connectivity, critical for supporting mission-critical applications. Additionally, the scalability of symmetrical PON technology allows it to accommodate growing bandwidth demands, ensuring that the broadband infrastructure can adapt to the evolving needs of residential, commercial, and enterprise customers. As a future-proof solution, symmetrical 25G PON networks can easily adapt to changing internet usage patterns and emerging technologies, maintaining a competitive edge and delivering superior broadband experiences over the long term.

“We are thrilled to support OPTAGE in conducting Japan and the Asia Pacific’s first field trial of symmetrical 25G PON with live subscribers. Once deployed, OPTAGE will be able to quickly scale its fiber network to meet the growing capacity needs of its customers while ensuring exceptional network performance,” said Tetsuo Kamoshita, Japan Country Manager at Nokia.

25G PON Foundation

Nokia’s Quillion chipset serves as the foundation of the 25G PON solution, which allows service providers to utilize multiple PON technologies simultaneously on the same fiber to achieve seamless operation that can lower operational costs and provide the flexibility needed to meet the specific demands of different customer segments.

The first field trial signifies OPTAGE’s commitment to providing its customers with the best possible experience. This will also serve as the benchmark for future 25G PON-based services that the company plans to launch in the coming months.

“We are confident that once deployed, Nokia’s field-proven 25G PON solution will allow us to provide our customers with the fastest, most reliable broadband symmetrical service in Japan,” said Masahiko Nabe, President & Representative Director at OPTAGE Inc.
