Vietnamese software company FPT Software has formed a partnership with European IT services business SCC, following SCC's announcement in June 2016 of its expansion into Vietnam.

SK Telecom and Nokia claim to have deployed the world's first cloud-based SDRAN (Software-Defined RAN) - also known as Cloud RAN - in a commercial network. They say that, by taking advantage of virtualized functions it is able to deliver new network scalability and elasticity, enhancing quality of service and network stability.

SAP and NTT say they are expanding their established partnership to develop IoT systems for the transport industry. Their initial project will combine vehicle-monitoring systems from SAP with driver monitoring technology from NTT.

NEC has signed a contract with Telkom Indonesia to develop the Indonesia Global Gateway cable system (IGG) that will connect the islands of Sumatra, Batam, Jawa, Bali, Kalimantan and Sulawesi with Singapore.

NTT Communications Corporation (NTT Com), the ICT solutions and international communications arm of NTT, has become the first Japanese company to have its platform certified by the Cloud Foundry Foundation. The Foundation's certification is designed to establish reliable portability across platforms in multivendor, multicloud environments.

PCCW Global announced on September 8 that it is now ISO 50001 and ISO 9001 certified for its energy and quality management systems. PCCW Global is said to be proud of the achievement as it demonstrates its commitment to providing high quality products and services to its clients and further reinforces its position as a leader in delivering digital solutions.

IDC says it expects spending on IoT by Chinese manufacturing enterprises to reach $US127.5 billion by 2020, a compound average growth rate of 14.7 percent from 2016 to 2020.

IDC says software and services between them will account for 60 percent of expenditure. It notes that IoT has been enshrined in China's 13th Five-Year Development Plan and has become a strategic emerging industry in the country.

Frost & Sullivan says Southeast Asia is poised for significant growth in e-commerce revenues. It is tipping the market to be worth in excess of $US25 billion by 2020, more than double its 2015 value of $US11 billion,

China added 34 million fixed broadband subscribers in the six months to 31 March 2016, taking the total to more than 0.25 billion, according to the latest figures from research firm, Point Topic.
