Amazon Web Services (AWS) has opened its Mumbai '˜Region', its sixth in Asia Pacific. AWS says more than 75,000 India-based customers are already using other AWS Regions. 'Starting today, global and India-based developers, start-ups, enterprises, government organizations, and non-profits can leverage the AWS Cloud to run their technology applications from infrastructure in India, and provide even lower latency to India-based end users,' AWS said.

South Korean satellite pay TV provider KT SkyLife has chosen Ericsson to expand its Ultra High Definition (UHDTV) service. It will deploy Ericsson's HEVC (High Efficiency Video Coding) encoders to bring consumers better picture quality. The deal marks KT SkyLife's fifth UHD channel launch to date.

Geostationary satellite operator, SES, has signed a multi-year, multi-transponder agreement with Sky Cable, the largest cable television provider in the Philippines, under which Sky Cable will broadcasting direct-to-home (DTH) satellite TV channels via SES satellites at 108.2 degrees East, the SES-9 and NSS-11 satellites.

Despite having the world's highest average per capita income, almost half of US citizens have no broadband access, according to the findings of a study undertaken by the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA). However the research used very different definitions of broadband in different countries.

Pakistani telco Warid Telecom is deploying Syniverse's IPX diameter signaling services to enable its subscribers to access LTE services around the globe, and to provide LTE service to visiting inbound roamers throughout Pakistan. According to the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority, Pakistan had more than 26.1 million 3G and LTE subscribers at the end of February, up from just 24.7 million in January.

Vodafone New Zealand will reportedly take a controlling interest in Sky television under a NZ$3.44 billion (US$2.44billion) deal, the pay-TV operator said Thursday. Sky said the deal, which will combine New Zealand's largest subscription television service with the country's second biggest telecommunications carrier, was a ""transformational strategic step"" for the company.

GoDaddy, which claims to be the world's largest technology provider dedicated to small businesses, has expanded its hosting services to offer cloud servers and Bitnami-powered cloud applications in Asia. It says the new offerings are designed to help individual developers, tech entrepreneurs and IT professionals to quickly build, test and scale cloud solutions.
